What I Wish I Knew When I Was in… College
Look for Solutions
No matter what’s going on in your life, no matter what situations you experience, look for the solution. Don’t look at the problem.
“How do I solve this problem?” That’s one of the questions you must ask yourself, along with “How do I keep going in the midst of this challenge?” and “What can I do to make it work?”
You must be driven by the consequence or outcome. The problem is not stopping you from getting the end result you want. You may have an issue at this moment in time, but do you still deserve to get the result you desire? What are you going to do to achieve that result and keep things moving forward?
Condition your mind to immediately go into solution mode every time you encounter a problem. Do you deal with problems or puzzles? The words you use to describe the obstacles you encounter in life determine your routine.
How do you feel when you hear the word problem? How do you feel when you hear the word puzzle? Which word prompts you to look for a solution? With a puzzle you focus on finding the answer or putting the pieces together rather than focusing on how challenging the puzzle is. You were taught strategies to solve puzzles.
When you are faced with a problem, always look for a way to solve it. Do not get stuck and dwell on the problem itself.
